Like American college for school, European football academies are the best chance for a player to improve and grow up technically, tactically and mentally. More then 30 youth players from North Korea trained in the last years in Spain (Fundacion Marcet) and in Italy (Italian Soccer Managment). Choe Song-Hyok was in Spain with Fundacion Marcet (Barcellona). He started his elite career (youth level) on 25 semptember 2013, playing with North Korea the first game of AFC U16 Qualification against Myanmar. The team followed the prediction and made a good tournament. They won the first game (3:0), the second (18:0) and tied the third against China (0:0). In this way, they qualified for the AFC U16 Championship in Thailand. By the way, Choe Song-Hyok was not a regular member of the team, even if he dressed the number 10. This last result took the team in the final, where they faced South Korea for an Historical derby. It was the first time tha North and South Korea faced each other in a final game of the U16 AFC. South Korea was the most accredited team for win the third title of Champions of Asia U16. Lee Seung Woo, South Korea captain and former FC Barcellona player, was without doubt the best player of the chapionship. North Korea, playing with hart and determination, found the strenght for win the game and be awarded for the second time as the "Best U16 Asian Team". Choe Song-Hyok, that scored the second goal for North Korea in the final, was a regular starter and a key member of the team for the whole tournament. This result showed again the improvment of North Korean youth football movment, that in the last six U16 Championship, since 2004, reached four times the final game. In the middle of October 2015, U17 World Cup started, and North Korea was one of the four Asian clubs qualified. Choe Song-Hyok, again with his number 10, played all the games of the group stage, helping the team in reach the qualification for the finals games of the tournament. He didn't score goals but helped the team with his quality on the right wing and his quality in the one vs one. On the Round of 16, the first after the groups, North Korea faced Mali, the champions of Africa. Mali won for 3-0 and had a succesful World Cup, reaching the final game against Nigeria. North Korea, did his best and showed the talent of three guys that will surely have a bright future. Choe Song-Hyok.
A gift from North Korea Song Hyok Choe is a right winger, left foot, that dressed the shirt nr.10 of North Korea during the U17 World Cup and the U16 AFC (where they won). He likes to dribble and to play the ball. Very quick in the short spaces he is able to manage the ball under the pressure of the opponents. He often drives the ball from right to left, looking for the final pass or for the shoot. He plays the ball with personality and assurance, sometimes arrogance. He is surely a talent to watch.
