History: Roberts Uldrikis is another talented product of FS Metta. This club, boasts the best academy in all the Baltic Countries, and it is known for bringing through the most talented players in Latvia and also players from other regions that need a showcase to play at a higher level. Uldrikis, who is at the end of his first professional season, is amongst the best Baltic region talents of his generation. Aged 17, he made his debut for FS Metta against Skonto Riga in April 2015. By the end of this season he’d played 15 games, scoring four goals and providing one assist. Uldrikis began 2016 by playing in the Valentin Granatkin Memorial, an invitation tournament for U18 National teams. He showed his talent with three goals and an assist in the first four games. On June 2016, playing "Baltic Cup U19" he scored two goals and served one assist in his debut game with U19 against Estonia. In January 2017 he joined FK RFS playing, in one year and an half, 34 games scoring 9 goals and providing 6 assists. Thanks to his perfomances with FK RFS, he was called up by the Senior National Team playing 6 games and scoring 1 goal against Azerbaijan.
Technical qualities: Roberts Uldrikis, despite his imposing height, is a strong, technical player equally at home, off the front or as a number nine. He is especially good taking the ball in with his back to goal due to his strength and solid touch. This is allied to an excellent game intelligence, bravery in possession and good decision-making under pressure. Uldrikis has a fine array of skills, good improvisation and a deft touch. His ability to improvise and manipulate the ball under pressure is backed up by excellent balance. These expressive qualities, allied to a nice change of pace, strength and the ability to dribble past opponents sees him often compared to a young Ibrahimovic. With his good vision and short and long range pass accuracy, Uldrikis is equally at home in the offensive playmaker role as he is as a conventional central forward.
Mental qualities: He is an exceptionally confident player. He likes to impose himself on the play, often with spectacular skill, and he has good powers of focus. He shows good heart and will keep trying to play even where things don’t appear to be running his way.
Physical qualities: Uldrikis’ strong physique and good height allows him to shrug off challenges and take the ball in under pressure. The player is also exceptionally competitive and mobile enough to play at both a high tempo and also in a side that press from the front.
Position: Uldrikis featured as an offensive midfielder during his first few games with Latvia’s U17. This role showcased all his creativity, his vision and passing ability. At club level, with FS Metta (Vrsliga), he plays as a striker, a position where, in my opinion, he will become an international player.
Weaknesses: He has to develop a more clinical finish but the raw material is all there and he is a player who will come on leaps and bounds with the benefit of full-time football at a high standard club in Europe.
