Gianni Stensness grew up in the Northbridge FC grassroot before joining the Central Coast Mariners youth academy. On 1 November 2018 he moved to Wellington Phoenix, playing in the 2018/19 season mainly in the reserves team but also collecting some appearances with the first team. On 28 August 2019 he marries the Central Coast Mariners, making around 50 appearances in two seasons in the A-League. Gianni Stensness is a flexible player: employed as a midfielder in his first career phase in Australia, once he arrived in Europe in August 2021 he successfully held the role of central defender in the ranks of Viking, in Eliteserien. The young Australian-New Zealand player had a great impact in Norwegian football, immediately earning ownership and joining his new team with great ease, contributing with his important performances to reaching the 3rd final position in Eliteserien. He is a well-structured player physically, with excellent technical qualities, good conditional skills and a remarkable tactical intelligence. We can define him as a modern and complete difensive midfileder and central defender, elegant and clean in his interventions, fast, with an excellent sense of position and very skilled in setting the maneuver with quality thanks to his great vision of the game. With his very polite foot he manages to verticalize with great quality, finding interesting passing lines, to serve the attackers in depth and to make long and precise game changes. To the remarkable skills in the setting phase, he also combines important qualities as a pure defender: concentrated in marking, he reads the game very well, is tactically intelligent and performs defensive interventions with great timing, showing an excellent attitude even in advances and in the air game. He is always well positioned, with the right postures. By characteristics he is a defender who adapts indifferently to defend both forward leaving the field behind (having good speed he is able to defend the depth well, accepting one-on-one in the open field) and with a lower defensive block.
